Dutta complains that director Priyadarshan likes to keep his actors guessing on his sets...
Lara Dutta who is known for having her head on her shoulders at most times says she was left confused on the sets of Bhaagam Bhaag, by director Priyadarshan's style of working.
Lara says, "It's the first time I've worked with Priyan Sir. His style of working is completely different from anyone I've worked with so far. He keeps improvising constantly on the sets. It's very much like magic created on the spot. Everyone is left wondering about what's going to happen next."
She adds that although shooting for the film has ended, there are parts of the film that she is still flummoxed about. "If someone asks me the entire story, I don't think any of us who've acted in the film would know. Only Priyan Sir knows it all. He cuts the scene in four different parts and you are told where you come in, but it's only after you see the entire movie that you understand why you are doing what you are told to. In fact, on many occasions he shoots the climax of the film first and then the rest, where everyone is clueless about what's happening," says Lara.
Lara would have to mug her lines as a quick pace, but she managed to keep up.
She says, "You're given your lines only five minutes before your shot, so it was difficult. However, I'd call it a learning experience." In the film Lara plays a mystery woman called Munni who is chased by all the actors. "My character in the film is the reason why it is called Bhaagam Bhaag. Everybody's running after this girl," says Lara.
However, although comedy is a genre Lara has the most fun with, this time it was a scary proposition for her. She says "It was scary to argue with Priyan Sir as he has such clarity in his mind about what he wants. He would say, 'I know what is happening, you just do this much.' The character I play of this girl called Munni was quite confusing as she has many moods and is quite complex."
When we told director Priyadarshan about how Lara was a tad confused with his school of acting, he grinned and said, "I tell my actors only the bare minimum because I like to improvise on my sets. If I tell them everything, they have fixed notions of doing things and then I can't experiment freely."
Bhaagam Bhaag stars Akshay Kumar, Govinda, Parresh Rawal, and Tanushree Dutta and is due for release in December.
